Prove Yourself by Ben Severance introduces two characters, Derek Mundt who is a Phi Delta Theta and Evan Goddard who is a Phil Kappa Alpha. They are both fighting for the chance to win the Heavyweight Champion Belt.  Goddard has been in the ring before, but Mundt never has. He is the underdog of the story; he is new to the whole boxing thing. They both have trained really hard to become better than what they have been.

             

The Video shows clips of both men training for the boxing match as well as the match. It shows how they feel about the upcoming match and how confident they both are in winning the belt. It shows both sides to the story, it does not favor one person and so for people watching it, it does not give away who is going to win. Even though Mudnt is the underdog, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is going to win or that people will favor him the most because of that. They both have charming personalities.

           

 The video shows that these two strong characters are willing to train as hard as they can to win the belt. They both have something to prove to people. Its shows they both have the passion and the will to want to win the match. Goddard quotes Muhammad Ali and says, “The Ring is the loneliest place on earth because you get in the ring and it’s you and one other person who wants to hurt you. And you know that if you don’t go out there and hurt them, their gonna hurt you.”  The use of this quote in the video sums up what the feeling of the story as well as the match. It is about winning and not wanting to be the loser of the match. It also shows the sportsmanship that both characters have after the match is over.

  Breaking the Chains of Addiction by Rick Loomis is an uplifting audio slideshow about recovery and spirituality. It centers around the Beit T'shuvah synagogue and rehab center. The synagogue treats addiction with psychology and the 12 steps program as well as Judaism.

  A main person in this piece is the Rabbi Mark Borovitz. He admits to being to prison and alludes to it being as a hustler and taking advantage of people. Now he spends his time using his gifts of persuasion to help people find a reason to live. The other two characters in the story are Rachel and Luke, two former addicts that have found a place at the center and with each other. These are strong characters that can be identified with.

  This story had cooperative participants who wanted to get their message out to the public. The story could also be told in a timely manner since there was no deadline and it was an ongoing event. The story has widespread appeal due to it's subject matter. Addiction is something that is prevalent in our culture and it's rare for no one to know at least one person not affected by it. The spiritual angle and using religion to help in the recovery process is also a theme that many people can identify with.

A good photographer or videographer depends on good lighting to create a shot. Lighting creates the mood of any scene and sets the stage for the story you’re trying to tell. In an unusual but entrancing method, Nacho Guzman creates a dramatic scene and shows how quickly light can change the mood and expression on a woman’s face. Although the woman in the video only moves her face subtly over time, the rotating light around her causes striking mood shifts in the image. If nothing else, studying the angles of light hitting her face is a great way to learn how lighting can affect a portrait. Although this is just a teaser, I cant wait to see his final product. How would you apply this concept?
