Point of view documentary Angel

Video

Hammoudi-Story evaluation Angel

The human condition in the story is the innocent civilians in Iraq that get caught between the wars. The story is about an Iraqi child who is speaking Arabic and is telling the audience about life in Iraq. The child is filmed from the shoulders up, so the viewer doesn’t know the child’s limbs have been cut off. About half way through the video the child tells the audience that one day he walked over a landmine and his legs were blown off, revealing his distorted figure. The story is somewhat visually graphic, but at the same time intruding because the child is telling the story and the view gets to see his perspective on life and the war. I think this story has a broad audience appeal. The story taps into sympathy emotion bring the viewer to what to learn more about the child speaking.

Chapter 2 Homework- Erica Gomez

The video starts off by the narrator saying, “A tragedy brings a community together.”  Most people like to hear stories about people gathering together, because it shows how nice people can be among the chaos the world has. Starting off with that quote, grabs the audience’s attention as well as the subject of the video. The subject of the video is Lorissa Green, who died tragically in a car crash.  The video shows a strong character in Alexis Green, who does not seem to be that much older than Lorissa Green. She speaks at the vigil to everyone there; usually it is the parental figure that is shown on camera talking the person who has passed away.   Using Alexis in the video shows how strong she is by speaking to everyone, it pulls the audience’s heart strings.
The video has a strong visual impact because it shows people gathering around the place where Green has passed away. He shows people holding candles as well as people hugging and crying. After Green’s sister speaks, he shows a clip of the place where the accident happens with a bunch of candles are lite up, with a voice over of people at the vigil singing “Amazing Grace.” It then goes on to show short clips of interviewing people that know her, which enforces pulling the audience’s heart strings because it shows that Green was loved and will be missed by her friends as well as family.
Unfortunately, it is common when a car crash happens and most of them do not get reported in the news.  The reason this one was reported was because of the emotional engagement that it brings to the audience.  Lorissa Green was a sixteen year old high school student when she died in a car crash. The video also shows two of Lorissa’s Friends talking about her. One says that she had her whole life ahead of her, while the other talks about the last time she spoke to her, which reinforces the emotional impact the story brings.
The broad appeal that the story brings is that car crashes are deadly and that it can happen to anyone, it doesn’t matter the age anyone can be hurt or killed. It also shows that the family is not the only one who suffers the loss of losing someone they love, but the friends as well. Which why the person narrating mentions that “a tragedy brings a community together,” to show just how much car crashes as well as someone dying  affects people.

Bokeh Assignment - Angel

So Erica and I were at Luminaria this past weekend and I decided we should do the Bokeh assignment since there was so many lights (ignore bandages, I was attacked by an aggressive cat right before we went to Luminaria). I took this picture right before it started getting dark. The lights were quite a distance away. I figured we probably should have a subject matter, hence that is why I put my hand in the picture. Anyways I like the picture.
